Introduction to Pregnancy and Infant Massage

Taught by Madeline Brock, LMT, MTI, CLT

Pregnancy is an amazing time of life for a woman, beginning with the implantation of a fertilized egg, continuing with growth and development of the child, and ending at the time of birth. There are many physiological changes that accompany pregnancy that may cause discomfort; massage throughout pregnancy can ease discomfort, and be a great time for a woman to relax and savor the time before birth.

This course offers information and techniques for massage therapists to work safely with pregnant women who have low-risk pregnancies, and how to recognize signs that a woman may be having symptoms of a high risk pregnancy.

This 6-hour course will offer:

  • Anatomy and physiology during pregnancy
  • The 3 trimesters of pregnancy
  • Indications and contraindications for massage
  • Signs of a high-risk pregnancy
  • Benefits of prenatal massage for mother and baby
  • Bolstering and draping techniques during the 3 trimesters
  • Massage techniques for prenatal massage

What to bring to class:
